Graça Machel Ends Period of Mourning

After six months of retreat, mourning the death of President Rolihlahla Nelson Mandela, Mrs Graça Machel will now return to her active role as a global advocate for women’s and children’s rights.

“In December 2013, Madiba passed on and South Africa lost its father of democracy and leader, and the world lost an internationally respected icon. I lost my best friend, beloved husband, and guide. I have been deeply touched and comforted by the affection shown towards my family and I since Madiba’s illness through to the present moment. I would like to thank our family, friends, and the people throughout the world who gave me love and support during these difficult times.

Dear Mr. Dad: My wife and I have been trying to have a baby for two years. Both of us have undergone lots of testing but the doctors still don’t know what the problem is. Throughout all of this, dozens of people – mostly friends and family, but also doctors, nurses, lab techs, and others – have come up to me and either offered some kind of advice, asked how my wife is doing, or told me what I need to do to support her. This whole process has been extremely stressful, and both my wife and I are emotionally devastated, but not a single person has asked how I’m doing. I’m getting really angry about being ignored and I’m trying to keep from biting someone’s head off. How should I respond?

One in eight couples are struggling with infertility, and a local group is trying to do something about it. A Jackson woman started a new support group for couples dealing with infertility. The National Infertility Association, “Resolve” opened a new chapter here in mid-Michigan in Jackson.

State Seeks Summary Judgment in Sperm Donor Case

The Kansas Department for Children and Families filed a 33-page motion Friday seeking summary judgment in the case it filed in October seeking to have Topekan William Marotta declared the father of a 3-year-old girl Jennifer Schreiner bore in 2009 so he can be forced to pay child support.
