It may be time to rethink traditional advice to wait at least three months after a miscarriage before trying to conceive again, according to a new study published online Monday in Obstetrics & Gynecology. Couples who attempted within a three-month window after losing a pregnancy had a 53 percent chance of a later live birth in the six-month study interval, compared with a 36 percent chance for couples who waited longer, the study found.
ACOG Updates Emergency Contraception Guidelines
The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) published a Practice Bulletin concerning emergency contraception online August 19 and in the September issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology. The new recommendations, which update those published by ACOG in May 2010, include an expanded discussion and guidance on the use of ulipristal acetate and new data regarding the effect of body weight on emergency contraception efficacy.
Ethnic Variations in Fertility Treatment
British researchers studied 1,219 white and 226 minority women undergoing their first assisted reproductive procedure. The observational study, published online in The British Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology, included all women undergoing the procedures at a hospital in Nottingham between 2006 and 2011.
