It was not all that long ago a woman would choose to have her fallopian tubes “tied” being absolutely sure her baby making years are over and they were, in fact … truly over. Today, that has changed and women can once again get pregnant. There are two procedures to assist her. As a physician who practices fertility medicine, I am fortunate to have at my disposal both accepted techniques to help women who lament their tubal ligation — Tubal Reversal Surgery or In Vitro Fertilization. Each process has its own benefit, success rate and risks. I’d like to share my thoughts about how I approach these patients.

Infertility: When Adoption Is Not an Option
Justine Brooks Froelker said her infertility journey, which has not resulted in that “adorable picture of the ‘complete’ family, baby and all,” makes people uncomfortable and sad.Instead of getting angry and frustrated when she gets the question, as a therapist she shifts into educator mode and tries to help people understand that adoption is an “awesome option” for many families but it wasn’t on the table for her and her husband.

Are we done trying? Ask us at the end of a long day or when we’re plucking out our gray hairs and we’ll say, “Yes.” Ask us when we’re trying to decide if we’re getting rid of the bassinets and the changing table and we’ll say, “Maybe not.”
The Future of Fertility: From Womb Transplant to Ovarian Tissue and Embryo Freezing
