Mitchel C. Schiewe, B.S., M.S., Ph.D., ELD, HCLD
Dr. Mitchel C. Schiewe serves as the Scientific Laboratory Director at Santa Monica Fertility. He has over 30 years experience in Reproductive Physiology, specializing in Assisted Reproductive Technologies/Embryology. Dr. Schiewe has over 120 scientific publications, including cutting-edge research in: Laparoscopic Embryo Transfer in Small Ruminant Species (1984), Embryo Toxicity/QC Concerns(1984,1986), Ovine Blastocyst Cryopreservtion/Vitrification (1986/1988), Blastocyst Reconstitution (1992), Blastocyst Hatching Mechanisms (1994), Non-Contact IR Laser Assisted Hatching (1995), Embryo Biopsy/PCR sex determination (1995), Oocyte Cryopreservation/ICSI (1995), ICSI (1996), and microSecure Vitrification of Human Eggs and Blastocysts (2010). As a graduate student, he received 3 International Research Awards, has given professional service to the International Embryo Transfer Society (Education Committee Chair-1992-96; IETS Foundation Chair-1994-97) and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (RBPG: Post-Graduate Program Chair- 2007, 2010; Abstract Review Comm. Chair:-2008; Chairman-2007-2009; Past-Chair-2010; SRBT: Formation/Planning Comm. Chair-2009-2010). In the field of Human ART/IVF, Dr. Schiewe is considered an expert in Micromanipulation , Vitrification, Testicular Sperm/Tissue Cryopreservation, and Blastocyst Culturing. In addition, he has served as a High Complexity Lab Director at four Accredited Facilities in California since 1995, and worked as a visiting Scientific Lab Director in Rome, Italy (1994-1999).
